The members picked up broken trees, dry leaves, litters and garbage that lay on the footpath. At the end, the male and female members that comprise young professionals, housewives and senior citizens took a group photo with the banner that read, 'Worldwide Clean-up Campaign for the Passover 2011'.

A young member of the team, Anvin Raj, 24 explains the importance of the Passover day that will fall on April 17. "The Bible says that if one prays and have a feast of bread and wine on that day, the world can be saved from any natural disaster. The clean-up campaign was held in preparation of the feast called Passover that is to be held on the - 17th April, 2011. The idea behind the clean-up programme is that muck is not just in the mind. When the surroundings are clean, one thinks better." The members of the Church of God took permission from the Nagar Sevak Sanjay Devram Bhoire.

He has also given them tips on how to go about as this is their first venture. The officials supported the members providing them cleaning equipment and soft drink. The members too bought some equipment like gloves and herein lies an interesting story. They bought two types of gloves. One type of gloves can be used later as well to pick up dry waste. For the wet ones, they have bought disposable gloves. They also bought some garbage bags, wooden brooms etc, so says Raj.

But perhaps, the best part of the story is that the clean-up on that day was not just limited to an area called Balkum in Thane.
