A letter from state higher and technical department addressed to NU registrar has demanded explanation as to how Mishra's Central India Institute of Mass Communication (CIIMC) started courses without renewing permission for them from the government. The letter by officer VG Chandekar dated March 17 further asked NU as to how it granted affiliation to CIIMC to run these courses as their permissions had expired.
NU was also told to specify reasons with relevant laws and sections behind granting affiliation to the courses. Chandekar asked the registrar to come up with an explanation as to how it affiliated new courses of CIIMC even as their syllabus was not prepared. The courses mentioned in the letter are Master of Fashion Designing and Textile Design along with Bachelors of Jewellery Design, Business Management and Khadi production.
NU officials, as usual, were not available for comments. Even PRO Sanjay Bahekar refused to take calls. About a month back mediapersons had asked PRO office about CIIMC's credentials as per new arrangement made by VC Vilas Sapkal. However, none of the queries were answered by PRO. Even Mishra was not available for comments.
According to NU sources, Mishra and his sister now run CIIMC in the premises of Ashirwad theatre. About 400 students study there. Ironically, NU bosses granted CIIMC the permission to run the college despite the fact that its earlier premises on VIP Road was seized by NMC for failure to pay rent. Even unqualified students were admitted illegally for some courses and they later barred by the university from appearing in the exams.
Sources claimed that Mishra allegedly pressured former NU bosses including VC SN Pathan in granting approval for above mentioned courses. The former NU boss then granted them despite being fully aware of the fact that it didn't have necessary infrastructure. When former NU social sciences dean Dhyaneshwar Kadhao opposed the move, he was allegedly suspended by his college.
